The Oxford Ethnographic Film Society
OADF is proud to announce that the Oxford Ethnographic Film Society (OEFS) will continue screening films in January 2010 in collaboration with OADF.
History of OEFS
The Oxford Ethnographic Film Society was founded in 2000 by OADF founder Dr Alison Kahn while she was a post-graduate student of Anthropology at the University of Oxford. The aims of the society include the screening of a variety of films that can be considered ethnographic and then to discuss and debate the topics and themes that arise. When possible, the filmmakers are invited to present their work, answer questions from the audience, and take part in the discussion. OEFS has taken parts in various film festivals, such as the Rome International Film Festival in 2001 and 2002, and the Royal Anthropological Institute's Ethnographic Film Festival in Oxford in 2005. After seven years of operation, OEFS became dormant upon the development of OADF, but now a new generation of post-graduate students have decided to carry the torch.
From January 2010, the president of the Oxford Ethnographic Film Society is Corey Boling, a post-graduate student of Anthropology at Wolfson College, University of Oxford. Please consult our web page for screenings http://oadf.co.uk/oefs/Oxford_Ethnographic_Film_Society.html, and feel free to contact Corey at oefs@oadf.co.uk.
