ABOUT US
What we do
Led by a team of experienced filmmakers and academics, OADF offers courses suited to anyone interested in using digital media. Our courses are practical but include discussions on styles and theories of filmmaking. We team up partnerships of tutors to cover technical and stylistics needs, and we pride ourselves on being up-to-date in the ever-changing world of digital media communications. Our filmmakers, all of whom are working in today's world of media and research, are on hand to give advice about funding opportunities, and tips on productions and distribution. We also offer production services such as consultations for developing film projects, camera crews and post-production.
Workshops
OADF offers a variety of 5-day to 3-week digital filmmaking workshops and longer courses in digital media production. Short workshops cover basic technical camera and sound operations, how to shoot for an edit, on-camera interviewing skills. Longer courses (10 days and above) offer tuition in editing on Apple software, master classes in film styles, and tuition on the business behind producing documentary films. We use semi-professional cameras such as Canon XL2 and Sony PD170 and have HD cameras available. We use Apple editing software Final Cut Pro and Final Cut Express 4.0; all currently used in professional productions. At the completion of each workshop, our students will have gained hands-on experience in professional broadcast quality film production. Participants are invited to join a forum to discuss their projects and a Facebook group for networking opportunities. We also provide tailor-made workshops to suit the needs of individual clients and institution. Please contact Alison Kahn if you would like OADF to come to you.
Courses
OADF runs evening courses in digital video editing and documentary production that provide comprehensive training in broadcast-quality filmmaking. We work on the premise that, by understanding how films are shot and edited to produce a professional-quality end product, students and researchers who use visual media can become better critics of visual representations. Our courses emphasise both the technical aspects of the production and editing processes as well as the theoretical impetus and ethical implications for employing new technologies for research purposes. We are currently developing a One-Year Foundation Course in Digital Filmmaking starting in September 2010. Please contact Alison Kahn for details.
